Attention Atlanta based Workday payroll professionals! Are you a detail-oriented and results-driven payroll professional with a passion for the hospitality industry? Join our dynamic team at our beautiful Davidson Hospitality Group headquarters in Atlanta as a Payroll Manager!  You will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our 85+ hotel/resort locations throughout the U.S. As a Payroll Manager, reporting to the Corporate Director, Payroll and Compliance, you'll be responsible for overseeing and managing all property-level payroll operations across the portfolio. This role ensures timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing, while leading a team of Payroll Specialists. The Payroll Manager partners closely with the Director of Payroll to identify and implement process improvements, ensure regulatory compliance, provide guidance to the team, and support new property openings and transitions. This position also plays a key role in delivering training and serving as a payroll resource across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the payroll team, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for weekly and biweekly payrolls in Workday, and overseeing final approval and submission to One Source Virtual (OSV) and ADP. Maintain a strong emphasis on compliance, precision, and exceptional customer service.
  • Partner with the Payroll Director to develop, maintain, and monitor internal controls, policies, and procedures that support efficient and compliant payroll operations.
  • Experienced in processing multi-state payrolls, including compliance with complex regulations in states such as California, as well as handling union payrolls.
  • Responsible for working with HRIS and HR teams for testing and resolving payroll issues.
  • Ensures payroll processes adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements by maintaining proper documentation, internal controls, and audit readiness.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on payroll compliance, offering clear and timely guidance to the payroll team and field on related inquiries.
  • Manage payroll workflows to ensure timely and accurate processing for all properties and business units.
  • Stay current on changes in federal, state, and local payroll-related laws and regulations, including wage and hour laws, tax regulations, garnishments, and benefits deductions (e.g., 401(k)).
  • Reconcile property-level payroll data prior to submission to the Payroll Service Provider for final processing.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with the calculation and processing of wage garnishments.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and support for Property-level HR Directors (HRDs) and Regional HR Directors (RHRDs) on payroll-related matters.
  • Act as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams to improve payroll processes and resolve complex issues.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing payroll process improvements and best practices.
  • Oversee accurate and timely completion of year-end reporting, including W-2s and W-2c corrections.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ Workday payroll processing experience required.
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership of payroll functions in a multi-state, multi-unit organization with 5,000+ employees.
  • Hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) strongly preferred.
  • Payroll tax experience required.
  • Extensive experience with Workday HR/Payroll HCM system, time and attendance systems, and general ledger integration.
  • Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state employment laws and IRS regulations impacting payroll (e.g., FLSA, FMLA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
